October 8th saw the first "Heavy Metal Tour" take place in the Stevens Point area. Just over 100 8th grade students from Stevens Point and Amherst were able to come to Marten Machining, tour the facility and get a demonstration on CNC programming, CNC 5-axis machining, and CMM inspection.

The tours came at an important time. October is Manufacturing Month and awareness of manufacturing jobs and the skills required for manufacturing jobs of today and in the future is getting much more attention than in years past.

After the tours were finished Alan Marten noted, "It was very exciting to see all the students get a chance to visit our place and get some exposure to what manufacturing means to us. The students asked so many interesting questions and showed real excitment in the technology they saw. We work with young people and students on a yearly basis and hope that some of the students that came today will consider a career in manufacturing as they complete their education."
